About this work
Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — Technicians at Astrotech Space Operations in Titusville, Fla., work on the back side of the MESSENGER spacecraft, mating it with the Payload Assist Module, the Boeing Delta II third stage, below. The white panel seen here is the heat-resistant, ceramic cloth sunshade that will enable MESSENGER to operate at room temperature. MESSENGER (Mercury Surface, Space Environment, Geochemistry and Ranging) is scheduled to launch Aug.
