About this work
Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — At the dock at Hangar AF, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, the SRB Retrieval Ship Liberty Star gets ready to transfer the spent solid rocket booster to a straddle crane that will lift it out of the water. The booster is from Space Shuttle Discovery, which launched on July 4. The space shuttle’s solid rocket booster casings and associated flight hardware are recovered at sea. The boosters impact the Atlantic Ocean approximately seven minutes after liftoff.
