About this work

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – In the mobile service tower on Space Launch Complex 2, the first half of the fairing moves into place behind the Ocean Surface Topography Mission, or OSTM/Jason 2, spacecraft for encapsulation. The fairing is a molded structure that fits flush with the outside surface of the Delta II upper stage booster and forms an aerodynamically smooth nose cone, protecting the spacecraft during launch and ascent.
