CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – A roseate spoonbill soars overhead against a deep blue sky covering NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Mature spoonbills feather the brilliant pink feathers with a white neck and beck and orange tails. Immature birds are white. The spoonbill is readily identified by the straight bill with a broad spatulate tip, which they use to obtain food by sweeping from side to side and scooping up whatever they encounter.
