CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- An alligator lounges in the water off Schwartz Road at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Alligators can be spotted in the drainage canals and other waterways surrounding the space center. The center coexists with the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, which encompasses 140,000 acres.
