About this work

Inside the Microbiology Lab at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Oct. 6, 2021, a microbiologist works with frozen lettuce samples that recently returned from the International Space Station as part of NASA’s SpaceX 23rd commercial resupply services mission. The experiment, titled VEG-03J, involved “Outredgeous” red romaine lettuce grown in the Veggie Production System (Veggie) on the space station and demonstrated a new way of storing, handling, and planting seeds in space.
