Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — The gantry on Pad 17A at Cape Canaveral Air Station appears to straddle the Delta II rocket below it that is being moved into position for lifting. The rocket is scheduled for launch on Dec. 10, 1998, carrying the Mars Climate Orbiter. The orbiter is heading for Mars where it will primarily support its companion Mars Polar Lander spacecraft, which is planned for launch on Jan. 3, 1999.
