About this work
Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — On Pad 17A at Cape Canaveral Air Station, a Delta II rocket appears to float just above the pad as it is lifted up the gantry. Scheduled for launch on Dec. 10, 1998, the rocket is carrying the Mars Climate Orbiter. The orbiter is heading for Mars where it will primarily support its companion Mars Polar Lander spacecraft, which is planned for launch on Jan. 3, 1999.
