Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — During emergency escape training at Launch Pad 39A, STS-100 Pilot Jeffrey S. Ashby (left) and Commander Kent V. Rominger are in their slidewire basket that, during a real emergency, would propel them off the Fixed Service Structure to a landing area away from the pad. The crew is taking part in Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities that also include a simulated launch countdown.
