Investigating Mars: Ius Chasma

This VIS image shows part of the eastern end of Ius Chasma. Geryon Montes are located in the bottom half of the image. Between the montes and the southern wall face is a region of sand and sand dunes. The presence of mobile sand indicates that winds are eroding, depositing and changing the canyon floor. The top of the image is dominated by a large landslide deposit. The radial surface grooves are still visible, but the region as a whole as undergone significant erosion.
