About this work

Ventura, California has a coastal site, set against hills and flanked by two rivers. Archaeologists have found remnants of human settlements dating back 10,000 years. When the Spaniards arrived at the end of the 18th century, they found the Chumash people and the Shisholop Village (Wikipedia). In 1782 Junipero Serra founded Mission San Buenaventura. Rich agricultural lands and the more recent discovery of oil led to economic growth.
