About this work
In this annotated infrared image, the five cyclones surrounding a sixth directly over Jupiter's south pole form a pentagonal pattern. The image was taken on Feb. 2, 2017, by the Jovian Infrared Auroral Mapper (JIRAM) instrument aboard NASA's Juno spacecraft. The JIRAM instrument measures heat radiated from the planet at an infrared wavelength of around 5 microns.
