About this work
This VIS image shows part of the northern margin of Acheron Fossae. Multiple channels dissect the the higher elevation graben features at the bottom of the image. This higher topography feature is surrounded by lava flows and is thought to predate the majority of volcanic activity in the Tharsis region. Acheron Fossae is located 1,050 kilometers (650 miles) north of the large shield volcano Olympus Mons.
