About this work
This image of the parachute that helped deliver NASA's Perseverance Mars rover to the Martian surface was taken by the rover's Mastcam-Z instrument on April 6, 2022, the 401st Martian day, or sol, of the mission. The parachute helped slow Perseverance down during its landing at Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, 2021. A key objective for Perseverance's mission on Mars is astrobiology, including the search for signs of ancient microbial life.
