About this work
STS099-729-045 (11-22 February 2000) ---This Earth scene from the Space Shuttle Endeavour features linear dunes in the Algerian Saharan sand sea known as the Erg Chech. The dunes, according to NASA scientists, have been built up over thousands of years into masses elongated roughly parallel with the prevailing northeast winds. Dune chains in the northern (upper) half of the view are 5-8 kilometers apart.
