STS111-S-035 (5 June 2002) --- The Space Shuttle Endeavour lifts off, creating billows of smoke and steam on its way into space for mission STS-111 to the International Space Station (ISS). Liftoff occurred at 5:22:49 p.m. (EDT), June 5, 2002. The image was photographed from a Shuttle Training Aircraft (STA), which flies near the launch area for weather monitoring and other support to the mission's liftoff phase.
