About this work

ISS017-E-008532 (2 June 2008) --- An overhead view of the exterior of Space Shuttle Discovery's crew cabin, part of its payload bay doors and docking system was provided by Expedition 17 crewmembers on the International Space Station (ISS). Before docking with the station, astronaut Mark Kelly, STS-124 commander, flew the shuttle through a roll pitch maneuver or basically a backflip to allow the space station crew a good view of Discovery's heat shield.
