ISS036-E-039778 (3 Sept. 2013) --- Caldera lakes to the northwest of Rome, Italy are featured in this image photographed by an Expedition 36 crew member on the International Space Station. The Lazio region of central Italy has many landforms of volcanic origin, including several large lakes that mark the locations of ancient volcanoes. This photograph highlights two such lakes, Lago di Vico and Lago Bracciano, located to the northwest of the capital city of Rome.
