2596: At the Kremlin Wall in Moscow’s Red Square, Expedition 41/42 Soyuz Commander Alexander Samokutyaev of the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) lays flowers where Russian space icons are interred in a traditional ceremony Sept. 5. Samokutyaev, Flight Engineer Barry Wilmore of NASA and Elena Serova of Roscosmos will launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Sept. 26, Kazakh time, in their Soyuz TMA-14M spacecraft for a 5 ½ month mission on the International Space Station.
