Israel Alger’s <i>Orthoepical Guide to English Tongue, Being, Perry’s Spelling-Book containing also, Moral Lessons, Fables, and Much Useful Matter for the Instruction of Youth</i> was published by Carter, Hendee & Company of Boston, Massachusetts in 1833. The book taught the proper spelling and pronunciation of words, and contained small stories and fables to instill morality in children.
