About this work
Baluster-shaped pitcher with high-domed, wide-rimmed, molded lid topped by button knop; hooked D- or ear-shaped strap handle; and inset, curved spout with strainer. Fillet at neck and base; molded double-bead at seam. Underside of slightly convex bottom struck with maker's circular touch mark. Brittle yellow paper tucked inside is inscribed "This pewter / pitcher was / captured on Board / The / by Forest (underlined) / in The Civil War."
