About this work
A charcoal, pastel, and watercolor drawing of three American soldiers on combat patrol in a town held by the enemy. The soldier in front appears to be firing his gun, with a yellow streak of fire coming out of the gun barrel. The soldiers are advancing through a rubble-filled street with heavily damaged buildings in the background. The scene is dark with faint light shining on the rubble in the background. Various objects can be seen in the rubble in the foreground, including a blue helmet and a blue and white striped rectangular object. The artist's signature is faintly visible at the bottom left, "Harvey Dunn, AEF"
