About this work
This syrup jar is marked <i>SIR:DE:CICOREA*C*RAB</i>, and has a curved spout, applied strap handle and a domed-shaped foot. It has light blue floral decoration over an off white under glaze. The container probably held a syrup of chicory used as an intestinal tonic and blood purifier. According to George Urdang author of <i>The Squibb Ancient Pharmacy Catalogue</i> the handle is decorated with the owners signature mark, folded arms supporting a cross.
