About this work
This light blue and white syrup jar has a strap handle and straight spout. It is marked in manganese-colored gothic script, Mel ros sol. The word Mel in Latin denotes Honey. Mel ros sol might refer to Rosatus Solutions Syrupus. George Urdang author of The Squibb Ancient Pharmacy Catalogue notes that the handle is decorated with the owners signature mark, folded arms supporting a cross.
