About this work
This surgical set belonged to Charles McKnight (1750-1791), a physician who served in the Continental Army during the American Revolution, and then practiced medicine in New York City. Most if not all of the instruments in the set came from the shop of William Hasledine Pepys (1748-1856), a surgical instrument maker in London.
