Patent model for James Kelly, “Weighing Scale,” U.S. Patent 14,361 (March 4, 1856). The inscription on the dial reads “J. KELLY / SAG HARBOR.” That same year, Kelly showed “very accurate fractional scales” at the American Institute fair and took home a silver medal.
