About this work
Shallow, rectangular porcelain bowl with indented corners, painted in underglaze blue. On the flat a bird on the branch of a flowering plant (peony) and two butterflies near a rock. Around this a band with lacework. The outer wall with a blue band with cherry blossoms in reserve. The underside is unglazed. Old label on the underside with 'Bequest of Mrs. A.M. Kickhefer/ Japan, Arita, 18th century/ 1967'. Arita, blue-and-white.
