About this work
Working from nature came first for Sosen. He made countless sketches to perfect his skills in rendering the animals as naturalistically as possible, both their appearance and their character. He depicted the langoustines with virtuoso strokes of ink, using subtle grey and black tones to beautifully evoke the sheen and texture of the shells.
