About this work

This partial figure probably represents Seitaka doji (literally ‘the youth Seitaka’), one of the attendants of Fudo Myoo, patron deity of those who follow Buddhist teachings. Seitaka aids the deity in his duties and symbolises effective action. His place is to the right of Fudo Myoo, the direction in which he is inclined, ready to offer assistance.
