About this work

Bowl of stoneware, covered with a white slip and a grey-green glaze. On the bottom an incised flower rosette; around this large bands with flowers, ruyi motifs and precious objects (coin). The incised decoration is filled with white slip (mishima technique). The outer wall with a band of stamped dots. Three old labels on the underside with 'W702', 'mishima Satsuma/ 17th century, beginning' and 'or mishima Karatsu?'. Three firing cracks in the wall; some chips in the rim. Satsuma.
