About this work

Bell-shaped porcelain cup, painted on the glaze in black and gold. On the outer side a medallion with a portrait of Lieve Geelvinck (176-1743), burgomaster of Amsterdam and one of the directors of the V.O.C., around the portrait an inscription 'DE EDELE GROOTACHTBARE HEER Mr. LIEVE GEELVINCK', the other side of the cup with his coat of arms; the outer rim with a decorative band in the style of Viennese Du Paquier porcelain. European representation in encre de Chine.
