About this work

The upper part of the vase features Xiwangmu, known as the Queen Mother of the West, one of the most powerful female goddesses in the Chinese pantheon. In her hand she holds the Peach of Immortality. Represented on the lower part are Shoulao and the Eight Daoist Immortals. The only woman in this group is He Xiangu. She is the third from the left, carrying a lotus leaf on her shoulder.
