About this work
Simple chess set of ivory. The pieces have a vase shape with a round, widely flaring foot, decorated with a palmette border. The king and queen are designed as a kind of pavilions, the bishops as stylized bishop's mitres, the rooks are represented by towers with flags and the horses by horse heads. The pawns have a vase shape with a flame.
