About this work
Porcelain jenever jug, painted in underglaze blue. The jug is in the form of a jolly Dutchman sitting on a barrel, holding a bottle in his raised left hand and a glass in the other. The head is separate from the body and serves as a lid; on the head a feathered hat. On the front of the barrel a hole has been made for a (missing) brass tap. The barrel rests on a pedestal with volute ornaments in European style; the pedestal is decorated with leaf scrolls. Blue and white.
