About this work
This kimono's decoration of rhythmically distributed blocks would have struck a highly modern chord in the 1920s. Relatively thick, raw silk was used for kimonos for everyday wear, available readymade in the shops. 'Off the peg' kimonos were a new phenomenon. Before then, people bought long lengths of fabric, which was cut to size and assembled.
