About this work

The parasol's handle bears the inscription 'Madame la Baronne G.A.G.P. Van Der Capellen Née Baroness De Tuyll à Bruxelles.' She was married to Godert van der Capellen, governor-general of the Dutch East Indies from 1816 to 1826. On the handle, besides the inscription, there is a landscape with small figures. The carving is of a very high quality.
