About this work

Palm-leaf manuscript consisting of 18 leaves with text in Tamil and Portuguese. The first 6 leaves contain more or less the same text, namely fragments of the catechism in two languages: in a variant of spoken Tamil and in Portuguese. The next 6 leaves contain fragments of the catechism in Tamil. On the remaining 6 leaves, one is blank, are exercises for learning the Tamil alphabet. The manuscript was probably intended for didactic purposes among the Christian Tamil community on the coast of Tamil Nadu, India.
