About this work
The elaborate decoration of this cloth was made using the batik method. The pattern is first drawn on the cloth with melted wax, after which the fabric is dyed. When the wax is subsequently boiled out, the uncoloured pattern remains on the cloth. The process is repeated for each colour. The central panel of this cloth is decorated with flowers, plants and birds.
