About this work
The sturdy material of this cloth is called 'abaca' and comes from the stem of the abaca plant. The plant is related to a species of banana and is native to the Philippines. Abaca fibres are among the strongest natural fibres in the world. The ikat patterns on this traditional hip cloth include animals and humanoid figures.
