Netsuke in the shape of a tiger

About this work
This small tiger figure is a netsuke, a toggle to which a cord was attached for hanging small objects on a belt. Toyomasa turned it into a small sculpture in the round; our eyes follow the animal from its wavy tail to the direction of its gaze. The tiny teeth are made of ivory, the eyes of horn and the pupils a dark material, perhaps ebony.
