About this work

Baluster-shaped covered jar of porcelain, painted in underglaze blue and on the glaze red, green and gold. On the body four large, scalloped cartouches with flowering plants (prunus, peony, grasses) near rocks. On the shoulder a band with lobed cartouches with flower branches (chrysanthemum, prunus, peony); between the cartouches half flower rosettes with three leaves. Around the neck and the foot a band with flower scrolls. On the neck flower scrolls. The foot with a band of scrollwork. The lid flowering plants near rocks (hydrangea, peony, chrysanthemum) with around the knob two bands with flower scrolls. The rim with a band of flowers. Lid has been broken and probably not original to the jar. Imari.
