About this work
Typical of the porcelain produced in the Kangxi Period (1661-1722) is the 'mirror-black' glaze. It differs from the earlier brown-black glaze derived from iron. The 'mirror black' arises through a combination of cobalt and manganese. It is a jet black with a lustrous sheen.
