About this work

This dish in the shape of a lotus blossom has an underglaze cobalt-blue and copper-red decoration: two colours that can resist the high temperature necessary to fire porcelain. In the centre is the Chinese character shou (longevity). Shou also recurs on the exterior of the flower’s outermost petals, alternating with the character fu (fortune).
