About this work
Octagonal porcelain ewer with a trumpet-shaped mouth, painted in underglaze blue. On the wall, a shishi (lion-dog) on a rock in a landscape surrounded by the 'three friends of winter' (bamboo, prunus, pine) and a peony plant; above the shishi, a heron flies. The decoration is finished by a cloud band with ruyi motifs. The outer rim with flower scrolls interrupted by two lobed cartouches: one with a heron above a pearl on three ruyi-cloud motifs, the other with a flower scroll. The foot with two bands with a decorative pattern. On the inner rim, eight compartments with flower scrolls. Slightly crazed glaze. Blue-and-white.
