About this work
After lulling him to sleep with his flute and storytelling, Mercury kills the hundred-eyed Argus. Under a tree, Mercury strikes off his head. In the background, Juno covers her peacock with Argus's eyes. A dog barks. The cow is Io, whom Argus had to guard on behalf of Juno. Below the image, two pairs of Latin verses. The print is part of an album.
