Book with an ex libris pasted on the front pastedown, title page, and 43 engravings on 44 sheets. The book consists of nine parts with regularly shaped objects as subject. The polyhedra are represented in increasing complexity and with an increasing number of sides. Wenzel Jamnitzer aimed to combine and visualize mathematical, spatial, and cosmological theories from writings such as Plato's 'Timaeus' and works of Euclid of Alexandria in an innovative way by representing them perspectivally in mirror and rotational symmetry. In the parts, the four elements are represented by a (truncated) polyhedron: fire by the tetrahedron, air by the octahedron, earth by the hexahedron (cube), and water by the icosahedron. The dodecahedron represents the universe.
