About this work
Representation in two parts. On the left side, the court of the Tartar emperor. Between the four pillars, some Dutch envoys kneel to obtain an audience with the emperor. The emperor is located at the top of the stairs behind a curtain. On the right representation, some Brazilian Tapoeiros prepare their food. The Tapoeiros were known for their cannibalistic tendencies, hence the limbs of human victims in the trees. Additionally, two Tapoeiros slaughter a crocodile. With a legend in Dutch and French. The print is part of an album.
