About this work
No. 79 in the Groot Teekenboek. Neptune with trident, ruler of the sea, is here drawn by dolphins. The dolphins that pursued the nereid Amphitrite when she fled from Neptune's advances, have carried her back so that she may return and become his bride. Here she rides beside Neptune on the back of a dolphin. Neptune and Amphitrite are surrounded by sea nymphs and tritons. Above them float putti.
