About this work
Schwitters engaged in many Dadaist experiments in the years following the First World War. This lithograph comes from that time. Its composition, full of disparate elements, resembles a collage, a technique popular with Dada artists. After the atrocious events of the war, they were extremely keen to return to their childlike creativity. The so-called civilized world had, after all, caused the war, or so they reasoned.
