About this work
When Baumeister visited Paris in 1914 with Oskar Schlemmer, he studied the geometrical idiom of Paul Cézanne and the Cubists. This continued to inspire him until the end of the 1920s. In this lithograph he constructed a human body out of various forms, lending it a mechanical quality. Schlemmer achieved something similar in the lithograph on the right.
